Lithium cells

Capacity at your discharge rate, not at C/5.

Cell specifications are quoted at conditions chosen to flatter them. Capacity at C/5 and capacity at 3C differ substantially, and cycle life quoted to 80% at 25 °C says little about behaviour at the temperatures your pack actually sees.

01Deciding parameters

The figures that actually decide selection — and why.

Capacity

Ah

Only meaningful with the discharge rate stated.

Continuous discharge

C

With the temperature rise it produces.

Cycle life

cycles

To a stated end-of-life threshold and temperature.

Internal resistance

mΩ

Drives heat generation and voltage sag under load.

Chemistry

—

NMC, LFP, LTO — a safety and life decision, not only energy.

02Where it is used

Application changes the answer.

  • UAV packs — energy density against discharge capability
  • Mobile robotics — cycle life and fast-charge tolerance
  • Stationary storage — cost per cycle over calendar life
  • High-rate applications — resistance and thermal management

03Decision drivers

What the choice actually turns on.

  • Capacity at your actual discharge rate and temperature
  • Cycle life to your end-of-life threshold, not the vendor's
  • Chemistry against the safety case you must defend
  • Cell-to-cell consistency across a production lot

04What we hold

The intelligence behind this category.

Genuine manufacturer against rewrapped and regraded cells

Grade A against B stock, and how to tell from documentation

Capacity and resistance distribution across lots

Certification scope — UN 38.3, IEC 62133 — and what it excludes

05What to watch for

Where selection in this category turns.

01

Comparing capacity figures quoted at different discharge rates

02

Buying rewrapped cells believing them to be the original manufacturer's

03

Ignoring lot-to-lot variation in a pack that must balance

04

Treating a certificate as evidence without checking its scope

Beyond this page

SKU-level intelligence sits behind the requirement.

Validated supplier records, per-SKU parameter data, pricing bands, MOQ patterns, and lead-time history for lithium cells are released against a stated application — because a shortlist is only meaningful once the operating conditions are known.

06Coupled decisions in battery & energy components

Cell · BMS · pack construction · charger are one qualification. Selecting any one of these without the others is the most common source of rework in this domain.
